Like yours, my life’s pretty hectic these days. So I decided to cut out travel time to the gym and search online for workouts I could do at home. I googled the word “fitness” and got links to gyms and magazines. Not what I was searching for. How about “online workout”? Better, but with so many sites to choose from, I had no idea which ones to trust. After a little digging around, not only did I find some great sites, but I came up with a list of do’s and don’ts to help you with your own cyber search.
- Do find out who is providing the information and why. Fitness centres, governing bodies and professionals may offer free information as a bonus to their clients. Other sites may be ad supported.
- Do look for an online fitness pro who is certified by a fitness governing body such as Can-Fit-Pro or the American Council on Exercise.
- Do choose a site with links to other quality sites, along with a clear mission statement and a variety of options for all fitness levels.
- Don’t buy into a site endorsed by a celebrity.
- Don’t spend a minute on a site where the reason for the information isn’t apparent. Whoever is behind the site may have ulterior motives, such as trying to sell supplements or weight-loss products.
To help you get started, More asked four online fitness personalities to create a do-anywhere workout.
All you need is an exercise band and a chair. Complete the total-body workout in its entirety, take a water break, then repeat.
