What happened to me
Often I am approached by clients who want to lose weight. They want me to be able to hypnotize them and then, somehow, the weight will just disappear and they will be slim, fit and healthy – abracadabra! Too bad it doesn’t work like that.
What I learned
We are overweight because we eat too much (usually much of the wrong things) and don’t get the right amounts of appropriate exercise. But why? Why do we, despite all the encouragement to the contrary, still over eat? Why, with all the information available about trans fats, sugars and processed foods, do we still eat the wrong things? Why, even though we know better, don’t we get enough exercise?
Because, weight issues are never about food. They are about our beliefs.
We believe that:
We don’t deserve to be slim and healthy
Our extra weight protects us from unwanted sexual advances so it’s not safe to be slim
We take after our Dad’s side of the family, and they are ALL overweight
Our Mum is fat, our sister is fat. If we’re thin, we won’t belong
We’re over 50 and now it’s too hard to loose weight
We got really thin once when we were sick, so if we get thin again, we’ll get sick again
We’ve tried every diet there is and we always gain the weight back. Its hopeless!
All of these limiting beliefs sabotage our attempts to loose weight, routinely eat a balanced diet and get appropriate amounts of exercise.
What I wish I'd known then
It’s time to really analyse your beliefs about loosing weight and being slim and healthy. What limiting, ‘world is flat’ beliefs do you have about your excess weight? How do those beliefs impact your ability to achieve and maintain your optimal and appropriate body shape and size?
Got them? Great! NOW call your hypnotherapist and get help to change them. Take those old, hindering beliefs to your PSYCH-K facilitator and get help to re-write them with the supportive, positive new ones; beliefs that support and promote your goal of being fit and healthy.
NOW with your fundamental beliefs supporting you, it’s time to make your fitness, nutrition and weight loss goals. Like everything else it’s MUCH easier to loose weight when you believe that it's safe, fun and appropriate for you to do so.
